Day 17 - Bend, Oregon to Chico, California

Image
Nice lazy start, breakfast downstairs with the hoards (I think every guest decided to have breakfast at the same time!!). Driving day today so started to head south. Filled up in Oregon (sales tax free) at $4:49/gal, then 10 mins down the road in California it was $5:69/gal!! Knew we were back in California as the roads are in poor condition (compared to Oregon and Washington State), but the scenery was very pretty Stopped in Weed for a quick snack Saw a motorbike with a dog in the saddlebag wearing glasses (sorry pic taken from car) Arrived in Chico, checked in to our room, walked across the parking lot to a Roadhouse for dinner - giant servings as usual. Back to our room to pack up the golf gear etc.. Tomorrow we fly home, but not until 10:30pm, probably go to Sacramento after a late start, want to avoid San Francisco at all costs - it is not a very nice place sadly 😞 Tomorrow is a Public Holiday here, Labour Day, so how knows what we will find. Has been a wonderful trip, looki...

Day 16 - Pronghorn Golf Club

Image
Late start, breakfast then off to play Pronghorn Golf Club. About 20 mins west of Bend. It is a resort course with accomodation and also residential homes. It is a desert style course, set amongst the Juniper trees. They were all loaded with berries, but they don't use them to make Gin!! Juniper Berries It was very pretty and in excellent condition. No two holes were the same which kept the interest going Sean's elbow was a little better after 2 days rest and he hit the ball nicely. He ended with 31 points. Sadly, my back got sore, so I only played 14 holes today. Really enjoyed the course though 😀 Back to our hotel for a shower and change. It is the Labour Day long weekend so Bend is pretty full. Drove into town but couldn't get a table in any restaurant as they were all full. Drove back to the Old Mill area near our hotel and went to Gregs Grill - I had the most amazing seared Tuna - yum!! Sean had the ribs. There was a big concert going on the other side of the river - ...

Day 15 - Bend, Oregon

Image
Had a nice sleep in and a late breakfast then headed out for our final shopping excursion !!! It was showery and quite cold today. Then had a drive around Bend, it is situated on the Deschutes River and is just so scenic, there are loads of outdoor activities for the warmer months and then skiing in winter. All of Oregon is beautiful and the people are so friendly. Deer just wandering around a front yard Lovely flower baskets everywhere We had lunch at the Deschutes Brewery: The only 0% Beer for me was their Black Butte Porter - very interesting - they describe it as rich, chocolate, coffee, luscious, roasty Unusual but very nice We had a very nice lunch then I tried a Boneyard Elixir. - a CBD sparkling beverage - also very nice Contains CBD oil A few observations about the USA: 1. The drivers are so courteous to pedestrians, if you even look like you are trying to cross a road they stop and wave you across. This happens over and over so it is certainly not an isolated occurrence...

Day 14 - Drive to Bend, Oregon

Image
A late start today, breakfast then loaded the car for a 5 hour drive to Bend, Oregon. It pretty well rained the whole way there, miles and miles of farms and open space once we left the river and dam. Arrived about 4pm, checked into our hotel. Did a load of washing then walked down to the river and the Old Mill area - a huge area of shops and restaurants - very pretty area. Regenerated from what was once a very industrial site. Had a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant and then walked back to the hotel. It doesn't get dark until about 8pm so it really extends your day. Planning to have a quiet day again tomorrow, let the bodies have a rest and possibly do a bit more shopping!!  Then a couple more games of golf before we start the long trip home 🏡
