Day 11 - Chambers Bay to Wenatchee

Up, packed, breakfast and off to Chambers Bay GC. Got an email overnight to say that our Mercedes has been factory recalled so we were to drop it off and exchange cars. After today we are heading East away from major cities, so we decided to go to Sea-Tac International Airport after golf.

Arrived at Chambers Bay - the pro shop is at the top of the hill and when you look down you can see the whole course - very unusual to be able to see every hole!! It also makes it look fairly flat from up there.

You get on a little bus which drives you down to the starters box and TurnAbout (half way house and shop). You then see the resemblance to Ireland with the huge sand dunes on the 1st & 10th holes - the whole area used to be a quarry.

There was amazing bunkering throughout and of course the trains run along the edge of the course (I am sure you remember from watching the US Open). The rough was not as punishing as it is during tournament conditions (luckily).











Sean had 7 par's and 2 bogey's on the front 9. His caddy was Tyler. The other guys were Mike and Anthony (who gave up after 8 holes as it was too hard for him) from Nevada and another Tyler who was also a part time caddy there - he took my spot as I elected to walk today and not play. It was VERY hilly and lots of difficult lies so I am very glad I didn't play (also saved us $$$$$$$).








Sean finished with 39 points - a great round on a tough course. Definitely worth a trip there. 

We drove to Sea-Tac afterwards and changed our car - they gave us a BMW X7 😀 - very nice

Drove 2.5 hours to Wenatchee for the night, full moon was pretty spectacular. Arrived about 2100hrs, so shower and bed for us

Day 10 - Seattle - Mariners Baseball

 Quiet start today, watched the end of the Dutch F1 race and the end of the Wallabies Rugby 😢 Buffet breakfast then headed out to watch the Baseball at T-Mobile Park. We drove in and parked within 150 metres of the entrance - very handy. Sean got a Mariners cap and I got a T-shirt. Good seats in the shade as it was 28 degree's again today. Wearing our Mariners gear  We got a drink - the range of beers was amazing, multiple fridges with a large number of brands and sizes, very impressive. They are the first Baseball stadium to trial a new "Fast" purchase area, run by Amazon - you swipe your credit card at this little gate, go in and choose what you want - food, drinks, merchandise etc.. - and then you just walk out!! There are heaps of cameras that follow you around and register what you are buying. It then shows up on your credit card!! Double size beer!! Day 14 - Drive to Bend, Oregon

 A late start today, breakfast then loaded the car for a 5 hour drive to Bend, Oregon. It pretty well rained the whole way there, miles and miles of farms and open space once we left the river and dam. Arrived about 4pm, checked into our hotel. Did a load of washing then walked down to the river and the Old Mill area - a huge area of shops and restaurants - very pretty area. Regenerated from what was once a very industrial site. Had a lovely dinner at an Italian restaurant and then walked back to the hotel. It doesn't get dark until about 8pm so it really extends your day. Planning to have a quiet day again tomorrow, let the bodies have a rest and possibly do a bit more shopping!!  Then a couple more games of golf before we start the long trip home 🏡

Day 12 - Gamble Sands to Walla Walla

Another fantastic day. Breakfast and on the road fairly early. Quite heavy rain showers and lots of lightening on the way to Brewster for our game at Gamble Sands. There were lots of lakes and dams and along side were acres and acres of apple and cherry orchards. The town near the golf club had all the manufacturing plants for the fruit to be sent off to market. The golf course was elevated with the lake on one side and the other was more like a lunar landscape - bare mountains, no trees, lots of rocks.... and in the middle of it all where the bright green fairways of the course. Reminded us of Wolf Creek outside of Las Vegas. Cart only, very hilly and long walks from greens to tees. Sean had a quick practice and then we teed off. The rain had stopped and it got warmer as the day went on - about 25 degree's.
